Minimalism Assignment

My favorite video example of the Minimalism music is the Philip Glass. I like this video because it makes me feel comfortable and calm. I also like the background of it a lot, I think it looks cool. The music also goes very well with the setting of the background in the video. I rarely ever like music like this, but for some reason I do like this. It does kind of give me a sad feeling inside though, which would make you think not to like it, but I still like it anyways. Also I usually don't like music without words.
The video I dislike the most is the Terry Riley video. It weirds me out and gives me the worst head ache. I think its the worst sounds put together that I've ever heard. It honestly scares me a little bit too. When we listened to it in class it gave me that bad of a head ache I felt like I was going to faint a little bit. Its so annoying, but at the same time maybe for something like a scary movie it would be kind of good.

Baroque Music Assignment

George Frideric Handel was born on February 23rd, 1685 Thuringia, Germany. His father always wanted him to follow into the lifestyle of law, but he had a heart for music. When he was 18 he traveled to Hamburg to take a job at the Hamburg Opera as a private violinest teacher. In that same year the first two of Handel's operas were produced, Almira and Nero. In 1706 Handel traveled to Italy and ended up spending three years in Florence, Rome, Naples, and Venice and got a job with Marquis Francesco Ruspoli(the prince) as a household musician where most of his most famous Italian works were composed.
The music that I've chose by George Frideric Handel is okay. I don't really prefer it because I'm not a huge fan of classical music, but I do think it's interesting.

Comparing and Contrasting Hildegard of Bingen and Michael Praetorius

Hildegard of Bingen was a women of christian mystic. Two "nicknames" people would also call her were Saint Hildegard and Sibyl of the Rhine. She was born in 1098 and died in 1179. She wrote theological, botanical and medicinal texts, also wrote letters, liturgical songs, poems, and the first surviving morality play.

Michael Praetorius was born in 1571 and died in 1621. He was German and composer, plus writer of music. Michael was the most versatile composer of his age. He developed the musical forms based on protestant hymns. His first compositions came out in 1602 or 1603.

The purpose of Michael Praetorius music was reflecting towards the care of the court of Groningen. Hildegard von Bingen reflects her music towards revealing spiritual truths.

How To Listen To Music

I thought Ms. Glennie's talk on listening was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. It amazes me that someone fully deaf like her can still be so talented and the best at what she does. I respect her a lot for not giving up because of her disability because I'm sure at times it was really hard to keep going and got frustrating, but obviously she never gave up.

It's cool how she plays the music by having to take off her shoes to feel the vibration. My dad is actually deaf, but his deafness is not all the way gone so him and Ms. Glennie are a lot different and he isn't a musician. She is an awesome musician and I liked getting to hear what she had to say.

Review Of A Review

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/reviews/song/17384/190602

My opinion on how Will Hermes did his review on the song "Mine", by Taylor Swift was that he needed more detail and he needed to be more straight forward with his opinion towards the song. He was funny though with some of the comments he made towards the song. I feel like Will was vulgar in his review and it needs more work. I would change this review by giving more detail to explain how I feel more and I would definitely leave the sarcasm cause it is funny. I might would want to read a couple more of his reviews because there funny.

Dave Matthews Album Big Whiskey and the Groogrugrux King

Album song list: 1. Grux, 2. Shake Me Like A Monkey, 3. Funny The Way It Is, 4. Lying In The Hands of God, 5. Why I Am, 6. Dive In, 7. Spaceman, 8. Squirm, 9. Alligator Pie, 10. Seven, 11. Time Bomb, 12. Baby Blue, 13. You and Me. \

I don't only enjoy this album because I am a pretty big Dave Matthews fan, but I enjoy this album because I really like all the songs and how he came out with a really good new album. I will say a lot of his old songs are his big hits and a lot of my favorites, but him coming out with this album I think was a good thing for him. I'm sure there are those out there who don't like it even some of my friends..they say his old music is better. I'm not saying that I like all his new songs better cause I'm always going to like his old music more but I still really like it.
The two songs I chose above are probably my most favorite from the album. I like them a lot because I enjoy the flow that the songs give off and I like the lyrics. Some of the lyrics don't really make sense to me and there very unrealistic, but they are different and cool. The timbre in these two songs are cool and kind of not normal I guess you could say. They are different and I think that is what makes them interesting.
The expressiveness and technique that Dave put into this album was really different than his old music which makes it such an interesting album and mostly why it caught my eye. I think Dave did a really good job at bringing the sound to life in his songs through this album. For the presentation in this album it defiantly meets my expectations. The impact this album has had on me is that I'm glad Dave came out with it because it has proved to me that even though his old music is really good even if he goes a little different he is still such a great artist.
I was going to go see Dave in concert this summer, July 21st, but stupid me waited too long to get tickets and then they got sold out. I was really disappointed. There are some songs on this album that I don't enjoy as much as the others which are songs 6 through 12. I don't really like these as much as the rest because they were just too slow and not my type. I mean honestly I haven't listened to them as much as the others so maybe I just need to try them out more and see if they can grow on me..I'm sure they can. Overall for this album I was really pleased and liked it a lot. Hopefully soon Dave will come somewhere close so I can go see him and hear him perform some of these songs.
